Frequently Asked Questions
Is this Jianzhan tea cup handcrafted using traditional methods?
Yes, this cup is handcrafted by skilled artisans using ancient Jianzhan techniques passed down through generations. Every piece is individually shaped and fired, so slight variations in form and texture are a hallmark of its authenticity.
What makes the Japanese crane glaze on this cup so unique?
The glaze features a refined minimalist crane motif set against a deep tenmoku iron-rich base, which develops natural oil-spot and crystal patterns during high-temperature firing. Because each cup is fired individually, no two pieces have identical glaze effects, making yours truly one-of-a-kind.
Can I use this cup for matcha, coffee, or sake in addition to tea?
Absolutely, this versatile cup is designed for tea, matcha, coffee, sake, and even espresso. Its sturdy construction and heat-retaining properties enhance the flavor and temperature of any beverage you choose.
Is this cup food-safe and durable for everyday use?
Yes, the cup is high-fired at over 1300 degrees Celsius, which vitrifies the clay and makes it non-porous, lead-free, and completely food-safe. It is durable for daily use and retains heat exceptionally well, keeping your drinks warm longer.
How should I care for this Jianzhan cup to maintain its beauty?
Hand wash with mild soap and a soft sponge, and avoid abrasive scrubbers or dishwashers. Over time, seasoning the cup by letting tea steep in it will enhance the glaze’s depth and create a unique patina; always air dry completely before storing.
Does this cup make a thoughtful gift for a tea or zen enthusiast?
Yes, it is an excellent gift for tea lovers, collectors, and anyone who appreciates Japanese aesthetics or zen mindfulness. The elegant crane motif and handcrafted uniqueness make it a memorable present for occasions like birthdays, holidays, or housewarmings.

Shipping was quick and the crane tea cup was packaged with care in a fully padded and sturdy box. The crane tea cup is exquisitely crafted and beautifully presented. This is a gift that will be highly prized by the recipient and I’m proud to give. Tenmokus’ craftmen & team provide excellent products & service. Highly recommend.
One of my favourite Tenmokus. The white crane flying in a red background is wonderful. The golden leaf at the bottom inside is precious. Exquisite piece of art! I bought It some years ago, but one of my cats broke it, so i have bought It again.
Thank you !!It’s so Beautiful 🤩👍!! I will Oder more.
Stunning red and beautiful Crane image further enhanced with the interior gold finish…
The Crane was a gift to a dear friend on her birthday in honor of her husband who was my dearest friend. I had previously gifted them both with Tenmokus teacups and they loved them. I like giving beautiful things that are useful everyday as gifts and these cups are perfect. Each cup also comes in a very attractive padded box. These cups are exquisite and something to be passed down through generations..
I have bought several teacups from Temokus and each is exquisite. They look good in photos but look even better when you hold it in your hand. The gold interior (with i8mage of a leaf) is eye catching. They are shipped in a safely padded box with a latch - great for storing your cup or as a gift box. This is a fine company with excellent artistry and craftsmanship.
Nice product
As beautiful as it looked in the photos. I'm not a big tea drinker, but, I've already been using it to sip sweet, dessert wines. The deep, golden lustre of the metallic glaze is enthralling to look at whilst swirling a red or golden wine🙂.
It's an exquisite tea cup with a beautiful design and so elegant. Thank you for your masterpiece 💜
Beautiful to look at. Well made and may someday be a Museum piece. That is the Caliber of quality these cups are made with.

These are the most beautiful tea cups ever! And I was able to surprise my tea loving husband! Ordered on 11/25 and received on 11/29. This was my "Honey, I don't need it, but I really want it" purchase. I am so glad that I did!
Such a wonderful cup for my different teas . I knew tenmokus for a while but was not ready for … may be because it comes from so far away from France … I had my cup in less than a week , and really is very happy with it.

This bowl is so incredibly beautiful and light weight. The detailing is exquisite and I think it's going to make a wonderful present! Thank you Tenmoku.
Really beautiful teacups. The crane pops out of the red background on the outside with gold on the rim and inside. In the inside bottom of the cup is an intricate leaf design. The cup has a good weight to it. They are just lovely.

Diese Tassen sind unvorstellbar schön 🥰 Und sie fassen sich so genial an. Echte Handschmeichler.
I love my cup, it's so colorful and the red & gold color scheme is beautiful. I also like that it's shaped slightly differently than my other tenmokus, being slightly narrower and deeper. It's truly a work of art.
This is my first purchase with Tenmokus and I’m totally satisfied and amazed with the quality and the craftsmanship of the products . I got both version of the tea cups with the crane - a beautiful creature popular in Japanese fairytales representing good fortune and longevity. They are simply beautiful, elegant art to me more than cups. I love how each cup is packed Individually packed and the shipping was speedy. I will for certain recommend Tenmokus to all my friends and family. I looking forward for more new beautiful creations from the company in the future. Below are two pictures I used for my food blogs.
So beautiful! The cranes are my most favourite cups!
Beautiful cups, I was a bit disappointed with the box, I purchased 4 cups and they were shipped in individual boxes rather than the four pack I had received other orders in. It makes storage a little less convenient, but not a deal breaker.
Such a work of art
When I opened the package, I was amazed at the quality and workmanship. They are beautiful. The packaging is exceptional as well. Very elegant. Shipping was quick and ordering was very easy. Would highly recommend. Well worth the price.
Works of art, love drinking my green tea out of them and they are just beautiful to hold and look at.
Love this cup! Beautifully done
We received the items only five days after having placed the order, which was a pleasant surprise since we did not expect then to arrive that soon. The packing was excelent and the cups were perfectly protected against any rough handling. The cups are beautiful and fully match the photographs of the web page. No enhanced or distorting colours to make the product better than it really is. In this case, the reality is better than the pictures! We purchased the cups to make a present to a close relative and I am sure she will be quite happy with this gift. Thank you for your excellent product quality and service.
