Frequently Asked Questions
Is this Comet Teapot truly handmade, or is it machine-made?
Yes, this teapot is entirely handcrafted by skilled artisans using traditional Jianzhan techniques. Each piece is shaped on a potter's wheel and fired in a kiln, a process that can take weeks and requires precise control over temperature and atmosphere.
What causes the silver and grey comet trail streaks in the glaze?
The unique comet trail streaks are a natural result of the iron-rich clay interacting with the high-temperature reduction firing process. As the glaze melts and crystallizes, the iron compounds form these dynamic silver and grey streaks, making every teapot completely one-of-a-kind.
Can I use this teapot for both light and dark teas like green and puerh?
Absolutely, the Comet Teapot is highly versatile and works beautifully with all types of loose leaf tea, including oolong, puerh, black, green, and white tea. Its dense, high-fired clay and wide mouth make it ideal for gongfu brewing, as it releases heat evenly and enhances the flavor profile of any tea.
Is the glaze on this teapot safe for daily use and free from harmful chemicals?
Yes, the teapot is fired at extremely high temperatures, which vitrifies the glaze and makes it completely food-safe, lead-free, and non-toxic. It is also highly durable and retains heat exceptionally well, making it perfect for repeated use in tea ceremonies.
How should I clean and maintain this Jianzhan teapot to preserve its glaze?
Hand wash the teapot with warm water only and avoid using soap on the interior, as it can absorb into the porous clay and affect future tea flavors. It is recommended to season the teapot by brewing a specific tea type in it regularly, then let it air dry completely upside down.
Does this teapot come with any special packaging to prevent damage during shipping?
Yes, the Comet Teapot is carefully packed with multiple layers of bubble wrap and placed in a sturdy box with foam inserts to protect its fragile construction. We take extra precautions to ensure that the handcrafted glaze and handle arrive safely at your door.
